We Are Flying Into 2009 With A Giveaway!
That's right. You can win these precious red swallow dangle earrings! The brass swallow charms are painted with red paint for that patina look. They are hanging from antique brass earwires and have a large transparent red glass bell flower in their beaks. They measure 1 and 3/4 of an inch in length.

Heather, those are beautiful! I must say if I ever saw a RED swallow that lovely fly past my window I'd just faint. Be a nice change from the grackles.
I like the red, too. I wonder about swallows. I think I have seen them in the sky, or other birds like them. But they aren't ones that come to my feeder. Maybe I will look them up.
XO - Keep up the pretty work!
Swallows, swallows everywhere. But hopefully on my ears ;)
Just read a children's book called Wing nut by/ MJ Auch. Did you know swallows kill purple martins?!?!? Meany heads.
i love most swallows because they love to eat flies.
i love your swallows because they are easy on my eyes.
i really should stick to scissors and glue and give up the written word...

SWALLOWS travel to and fro,
And the great winds come and go,
And the steady breezes blow,
Bearing perfume, bearing love.
Breezes hasten, swallows fly,
Towered clouds forever ply,
And at noonday, you and I
See the same sunshine above.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Swallows are rich with history and symbolism all over the world. For thousands of people over the centuries, the little bird can be linked to health, wealth, loyalty, and the rigors of long-distance travel. I would like to enjoy all these assets, especially the long distance travel. Earrings are such an easy thing to pack!
It is said in an old superstition, that when you see a swallow for the first time in a new year it is an omen of wealth. Thank you for the swallow siting.
Those are lovely, Heather! I'll be honest -- I'm kinda scared of birds. However, I do enjoy artistic interpretations of them in art. Swallows do have a romantic, whimsical feel when depicted in paintings, tattoos, and jewelry like yours. :)
(And thanks for the supportive comments on my blog. I think everything will be OK, but you just never know.)
Oops! The Disciples of Etsy comment was from me. I forgot I was logged in.
The swallow is come!
The swallow is come!
O, fair are the seasons, and light
Are the days that she brings,
With her dusky wings,
And her bosom snowy white!
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Hyperion
(bk. II, ch. I)
When I think of the swallow, I think of Monty Python's Holy Grail...Are these African or European Swallows...and...can they carry a coconut?
Heather - those are absolutely LOVELY! You do pretty work!
